There are at least three reasons for Pokémon fans to wait for January 2022. In about nine months, three more Pokémon games – two remakes and one original title – will be released for Nintendo Switch. The announced release date is January 28, 2022. All the titles are parts of the Sinnoh part of the franchise, taking place in the eponymous fictional region.
Of the three upcoming titles, two are remakes of 2006 Nintendo DS games. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are remade Diamond and Pearl of 2006. Again, they will take the player to the Sinnoh region to explore the local Pokémon fauna. As the original titles have never been released for Nintendo Switch, the difference between the two versions is neglectable.
The third title, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, will take place in the same region, but long before the other two, acting as a sort of prequel and telling the story of the first Pokédex in the steam era. It will also shift the genre (though not radically), featuring the new combination of RPG and action elements in an open world, bringing some Zelda vibe with it. Yes, it took the Pokémon franchise 25 years to introduce the digital open world even after they set the Pokémon out in the streets!
