It seems that Pokémon GO has always been around; in fact, it only has been for six years. It’s longer than many predicted, and the game is still highly playable, with constant updates and events. The event celebrating the sixth birthday of the iconic game will be really large, with six official themes and Charizard being the mascot.
First of all, there are five-star raids all month long that feature Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno. Along with them, there will be a catchable Dialga that you will be able to obtain if playing actively. Other rare guests are Mega Pidgeot, Mega Gengar, and Mega Charizard X/Y. Another Pokémon you’d like to add to your Pokédex will appear on July 17, and it’s Starly, a Starling one.
Each Tuesday, there will be Spotlight Hours. Each time, there will be a new spotlight Pokémon with a special bonus; Ledyba (2x Catch XP), Machop (2x Catch Candy), Staryu (2x Transfer Candy), and Meditate (2x Evolve XP). The Spotlight Hours will be held from 18:00 – 19:00 local time.
The main Anniversary Event will take place between July 6 and 12. It will include the Battle Weekend on July 9-10, which will feature Team Go Rocket as the main opponent. Players will need to find the Latios turned into Shadow Latios by the TGR leader. Other Shadow Pokémon will also be available, including Shinx, Geodude, and Purrloin. There will be another one that isn’t widely announced yet, but it’s known that it will bring new Pokémon species and probably bonuses too. It will start on July 27 and last until August 2.
And yes, even if you don’t participate in these events, you will be able to simply buy limited-time items in the shop during the event. Or will you play? If so, what’s your main aim? Who do you want to catch the most? Tell us what you anticipate in the comments. But don’t type while walking: Pokémon GO doesn’t forgive carelessness in the street.
