One of the most popular Battle Royale games, Apex Legends, is going mobile this year. If you are waiting for it and wondering when it will arrive, you might be interested in everything we know so far. The only thing we know for sure, though, is that EA and Respawn are determined to release it soon.

The first thing everyone wants to know about upcoming games is: when? So far, no date has been named by the publisher. The only thing EA says is that the port is already in the works. It has been announced back in 2019, so by 2022, EA has had enough time to at least advance in development. Probably, it’s June or July 2022. In ten Latin and Pacific countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, Mexico, and the Philippines, the game was released in testing mode on March 7.

Was it planned as simply a port? It’s hard to say. Recreating the familiar desktop and console experience is a steady move. But, as the story of PUBG New State shows, sometimes it is better to remake the game from scratch. Maybe the developers have learned something from the Apex Legends release on Nintendo Switch where the original game was ported. The “mixed or average” reviews on Metacritic reveal that the port was just mediocre: poor resolution, poor Joy-Con support, and problematic crossplay.

This leads to another question: will Apex Legends Mobile support cross-platform matches? Common sense says that it shouldn’t, due to inevitable differences in gameplay and mechanics, as well as controls. The aforementioned Switch version probably confirmed it to the developers. So, the only crossplay reported from the countries where it’s already available is that between iOS and Android.
